The state of LFA development today.

Passive adsorption is widely used for applications where very low limits of detection (LoD) are not required. When higher sensitivity is needed, developers increasingly turn to fluorescent particles, a high-investment solution that achieves very high sensitivity. However, both approaches carry inherent trade-offs that impact assay performance. In particular, non-specific binding (NSB)—especially with fluorescent particles—increases the risk of false positives or negatives and can ultimately render tests unsuitable for commercialization and patient use.
